Fresh Spring Lips: New YSL Lip Products

From Left:
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in #13
YSL Rouge Sheer Candy in #9
$34 at Sephora

I recently took the plunge and made my first YSL lip purchase and I couldn't be happier with these products! I have heard nothing but good things about YSL lip products so I was excited to pick these up. I picked up a Rouge Volupte Shine, which has opaque coverage with a glossy finish, and a Rouge Sheer Candy, which has sheer coverage with a glossy finish. Both of these products feel light, comfortable, and incredibly moisturizing on the lips giving me fresh pink lips for the spring!

Lip Swatches...

Rouge Volupte Shine #13
  • bright rosy pink shade
  • opaque coverage
  • glossy finish

Rouge Sheer Candy #9
  • light cool-toned pink
  • sheer coverage but can be built up for more opaque coverage
  • glossy finish

Fresh Spring Cheeks: Coral Lift & Pink Lift

Loreal Visible Lift Color Lift Blushes...
"Contours and illuminates cheekbones for a more radiant, youthful looking complexion."
#704 Coral Lift, #703 Pink Lift
$13.50 (at CVS)

Silky smooth cream blushes give the prettiest, dewy flush to the cheeks
Coral Lift, Pink Lift
#704 Coral Lift: peachy coral shade with subtle gold shimmer
#703 Pink Lift: medium pink shade with subtle silver shimmer

My Thoughts...

I recently picked up two of the new Loreal Visbile Lift Color Blushes after seeing a few swatches around the beauty blogging community...and I must say, I've been loving them! They have a silky smooth cream texture (almost like a dense mousse dessert) and give the prettiest, dewy flush of color to the cheeks. I picked up a fresh pink shade and a peachy coral shade that I thought would be great for the warmer months up ahead.

Tip: Since cream products have a tendency to "melt off" in the summer heat, I like to top these blushes with a little extra translucent setting powder to really make them last all day.

Also, these blushes are great but they're a little pricey (for drugstore) so keep your eyes peeled for sales and coupons!

On The Eye...

My Thoughts...

I'm a little torn with this palette...as you can probably tell from the swatches, the pigmentation is lacking to say the least, the shadows are powdery and the color selection is a little on the boring side (but I knew that going into this purchase). The overall quality of this palette is pretty poor...but with all that being said, I'm really happy with the way the finished look turned out! Somehow the lacking pigmentation and boring color selection came together to make a really pretty, neutral eye look! Funny when things work out that way!

Would I Repurchase...
I guess so. The individual shadow quality is pretty poor but I'm really happy with the way the finished look turned out!

Random Vanity: Maybelline Eye Studio Quad in #50 Taupe Temptress

Quick reviews of random picks from the vanity...

#50 Taupe Temptress
$7.99 (at Target)

I've always heard great things about these quads from Maybelline but for some reason I never picked one up until now. I picked up this quad in Taupe Temptress from Target for $7.99. I'm sucker for anything taupe or eggplant so I had high hopes for this palette.

in order as above

From Left:
Sparkly white shade (very flaky texture)
Sparkly rose shade (not very pigmented)
Sparkly taupe shade
Sparkly eggplant shade (appeared like more of a weird brown/grey shade on the eye)

Pros...

  • nice shade selection (I love a good taupe/eggplant eye combo)
  • pretty, sparkly finish (in the pan)

Cons...

  •  mediocre pigmentation
  • flaky texture
  • large amount of fall out
  • shimmery/sparkly finish did not translate onto the eye (the sparkle just fell out onto my cheeks leaving me with a basic satin finish eye look)
  • finished eye look appeared muddy (the shadows just blended together, leaving me with no definition and a boring, bland, grey-ish eye look)

Overall Review...
Not impressed. This quad left me with a "nothing special" eye look and sparkly cheeks. People generally seem to love this line from Maybelline but I obviously picked a dud. I will probably try another quad from this line in the future but not for a while...not until I get over the disappointment of Taupe Temptress.

Would I Repurchase?
No.

All Nude Review: Sonia Kashuk Eye On Neutral #2 Eye Shadow Palatte

Ode To The Neutral Eye...

Eye On Neutral #2 Eye Shadow Palette

  • $19.99 at Target stores (also available online)
  • 12 shadows
  • ALL MATTE!!
  • "The Sonia Kashuk Eye Couture Palette is comprised of your essential matte neutral shades. The formulas are extremely blendable with a velvety, soft touch and superior color release."
  • Fragrance free
  • Paraben free

Swatches...

(in order as above)

Pros...

  • ALL MATTE SHADES!
  • nicely pigmented
  • super blendable
  • wide variety of shades (light creamy shades, medium browns and greys, and a deep dark black shade)
  • sleek, compact packaging for easy storage
  • great alternative to the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (more shades for a cheaper price!)
  • can be used alone for a completely matte eye look or in addition to your favorite eye shadow shades and palettes

Cons...

  • shadows are a bit powdery (be sure to use an eye primer to give these shadows something the stick to)
  • moderate amount of fall out (be sure to tap off your brush before applying these shadows to your eyes to avoid excess fall out)
  • shadows are very soft (this leads me to believe this might not be a great palette for travel. Powdery, soft shadows tend to shatter easily)

Overall Review...

Awesome product! Its not very often you find an all matte eye palette at the "drugstore" (Target). I'm impressed with the pigmentation, blendability, and shade selection of this palette. You can easily create a soft, fresh eye look or a deep, dark dramatic eye look using this palette. Great staple item for any makeup collection!
