MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study VS Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded

I'm a girl who loves her eyeshadow bases. They provide extra staying power and vibrancy to any eye look. I've been on a bit of a nude eye kick lately so I've really been reaching for these two products for that neutral, wearable eyeshadow base. After all, who doesn't love a good pinky champagne eye  color?  No one, that's who...

Though these shades are practically identical, the texture of these cream shadows is the major difference between these guys. The Bare Study Paint Pot is notably smoother than the Barely Branded. Even before taking these photos, I had to take a makeup wipe and run it across the top of the Barely Branded cream shadow to remove some of the dried "skin" layer that had developed after sitting in my vanity for a couple of months. I've had the MAC Barely Study Paint Pot for at least a couple of years and it still feels as fresh and smooth as the day I bought it. However, because of this creamier texture, I find that Paint Pots will occasionally crease on me, even with an eye primer. The texture maybe a little more difficult to work with but I have never noticed any creasing with the Maybelline Color Tattoos, ever.

Which would I repurchase...
If you have the patience to work a little more with a product, I'd say go for the Maybelline Color Tattoo. This is a no fail product I can always count on for a long lasting, vibrant eye look. If you're a no fuss kind of girl and don't have particularly oily eye lids, the MAC Paint Pot maybe the better choice. It has maintained its smooth texture and pretty pigmentation over time and continues to be a quick, easy, no fuss product in my collection.

  1. That is so funny, I actually have the opposite experience! Paint pots never crease on me but the maybelline ones do! I have to put the maybelline ones over a paint pot or nars primer to get them to stay! My lids are ridiculous though lol They're both really pretty!

    1. I wish I had that experience! I've wanted Paint Pots to work for me for years (there are so many pretty ones) but every time I try, I'm a hot mess by lunch time! It's so funny how two people can have completely different experiences with the same product!

  2. I am always looking for that neutral, wearable eyeshadow base, that makes you look awake without much fuss and I find this post interesting because I have never tried MAC Paint Pots and I may give them a go now.
